4 Days (3 Nights) Uganda Bwindi Gorillas and Golden Monkey Tours
DAY 1: PICK UP FROM KIGALI AND DEPART FOR RUHENGERI
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, your Amahoro driver-guide will greet you and start your day with an enriching city tour. Known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," Kigali City, named by Dr. Richard Kandt in 1907, boasts a unique blend of historical and cultural sites nestled in green, rolling hills. With Amahoro Tours, you'll visit highlights such as the vibrant craft market, the Gisozi Genocide Memorial, and the Kigali Museum. Then, embark on a scenic two-hour drive to Ruhengeri, Rwanda's second-largest town, set against the magnificent backdrop of the Virunga volcanic mountains. Enjoy lunch at the Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Centre, where you'll meet local brew makers who will guide you through the fascinating process of crafting banana beer, from squeezing the fruit to fermentation. Try a glass if you’d like, or engage in other cultural experiences like basket weaving, all while supporting the local community. DAY 3: GORILLA TRACKING IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK OR MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
Today, after an early breakfast, prepare for one of Africa’s most thrilling experiences: an encounter with Bwindi’s Mountain Gorillas or Mgahinga gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is the only forest in Africa that shelters both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, making it a truly unique habitat for wildlife lovers. Beyond gorillas, this lush sanctuary is home to five other primate species, 113 types of mammals, over 200 species of butterflies, and 360 varieties of birds, creating a rich environment where each step offers something new to discover. The trek itself is unpredictable; it could take two hours or stretch over nine, depending on where the gorilla families are located, and you’ll be hiking through steep, muddy terrain that is often veiled by rain. But as adventurers will attest, the moment you first spot the gorillas is worth every challenge—a breathtaking glimpse into the lives of these gentle giants in their natural surroundings.
Before setting out, you'll receive a briefing on the etiquette of gorilla tracking to help you make the most of this rare and privileged encounter. Witnessing gorillas up close, sharing the forest with these intelligent beings, is an unforgettable experience that leaves a profound impact. Afterward, return to your hotel for a well-deserved lunch, then head out for an afternoon walk to the Batwa (Pygmies) community to gain insight into their rich culture. As the day winds down, you’ll enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening at your lodge, reflecting on the day’s remarkable encounters.
