Scientists warn that animals on the endangered list are monitored to extinction.

With over 70,000 known species of animals and plants on our planet, it’s dreadful to think that nearly a third of them are under threat. Yet, even the numbers of giant pandas, known to decline drastically before 1970 to about 1,000, have risen by only 17% in the past decade.

The Red List compiled by the International Union for Conservation in Nature (IUCN) includes 7,781 species on the endangered list and 5,210 on the critically endangered list. A handy infographic available here was shared by the IUCN, detailing the extent of the threat.
