Visa Requirements

Roughly ten times smaller than the United Kingdom, this is a country you can explore at your leisure. Please follow our instructions below for a seamless and convenient visa application so that you can more fully enjoy your Rwanda travel.

FOR VISAS, PLEASE NOTE THAT:

Nationals from the following countries may visit Rwanda without a visa for a period of up to 90 days:

  • The Democratic Republic of Congo
  • The East African Community
  • Hong Kong
  • Germany
  • Mauritius
  • South Africa
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  • The United States of America

Nationals of other countries must apply to the nearest Rwandan Embassy or Mission for a visa. If there is no Rwandan Embassy or Mission in your vicinity, please apply for a single-entry visa online at www.migration.gov.rw. This facility can be used to obtain the right to enter the country at any official point of entry. You must apply at least 72 hours before entry.

EAST AFRICA TOURIST VISA

When visiting two or more countries in East Africa, it’s best to apply for the East Africa Tourist visa. To apply online, please follow the “Visiting Rwanda” link on the official website of the Rwanda Directorate of Immigration and Emigration or follow this link. Then select “East Africa Tourist Visa” from the drop-down menu in the “Type of Visa” field.

The cost of the EATV visa is USD 100 and the countries listed are Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. Tanzania and Burundi have yet to join.

LOCATION

Rwanda, dubbed ‘the land of a thousand hills,” is situated in Central East Africa.

It literally lies at the heart of Africa, bordered by Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, Burundi to the south, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west. Here are some geographical facts you may find interesting:

  • 121 km (75 miles) south of the equator in the Tropic of Capricorn
  • 1,416 km (880 miles) west of the Indian Ocean
  • 1250 km (777 miles) east of the Atlantic Ocean

The country has a temperate climate, with two rainy seasons (February to April, November to January). Average temperatures range from 16˚C to 22˚C (60F to 71F).
