Turning Every Journey into a Community Story in Rwanda
Rwanda is known for its remarkable landscapes, wildlife, mountain gorillas and welcoming communities. At Amahoro Tours, we believe experiencing Rwanda should go beyond simply visiting a destination. Travel with Amahoro tours creates meaningful connections with communities, support local enterprises and contribute to preserving Rwanda’s cultural heritage. This is the foundation of our community-based tourism approach: creating authentic travel experiences while connecting tourism with community development.

Amahoro Tours and Strengthening the Community
Amahoro Tours serve as the commercial and marketing arm of a wider partnership focused on strengthening community-based tourism in Rwanda. Our role is to connect authentic community experiences with travelers seeking meaningful, responsible and culturally engaging journeys.
We brand, develop, package and promote community experiences; manage bookings and customer relationships; connect local tourism products with appropriate markets; and ensure that each experience communicates the story and value of the community behind it. Through this approach, travelers are not simply purchasing an activity. They are becoming part of a story involving people, culture, livelihoods and place.
Amahoro Tours acts as the commercial bridge between communities and the tourism market. By packaging, marketing and selling community experiences, Amahoro tours helps transform local tourism products into experiences accessible to travelers locally, regionally and internationally.
Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development (RRISD) provides the nonprofit and development foundation. Its role includes mobilizing funding and strategic partnerships, supporting capacity building, strengthening governance, coordinating impact reporting, and supporting cultural documentation and storytelling.
Red Rocks Community Benefit Company (CBC) provides the community-ownership structure. Rather than positioning communities simply as beneficiaries, the CBC model seeks to enable community cooperatives to participate as active owners and shareholders. It also supports enterprise development, governance, financial management, benefit-sharing and quality development of community tourism products.
Together, these roles create a connected model: RRISD builds the development foundation → CBC strengthens community ownership → Amahoro Tours connects communities to travelers and markets.

From Visitor to Participant
Amahoro Tours invites travelers to experience Rwanda through its people and heritage. Experiences may include meeting local storytellers, discovering traditional crafts, participating in cultural activities, learning about traditional agriculture and engaging with communities whose lives are connected to Rwanda’s landscapes. These experiences complement wildlife and conservation tourism by adding cultural immersion and human connection, thus helping diversify Rwanda’s tourism offering.
At Amahoro Tours, we believe tourism can be more than a transaction. It can create relationships between travelers and communities, opportunities for local entrepreneurs and pathways for preserving cultural knowledge. When you travel with Amahoro Tours, you discover Rwanda, meet its people, experience its culture and help create demand for locally rooted tourism experiences.
Our vision is for travelers to leave Rwanda with more than photographs, they should leave with meaningful connections and stories to remember, while communities gain greater opportunities to participate in and benefit from tourism.
